Ecuador is a small South American country packed with incredible diversity! Named after the equator line that runs through it, Ecuador offers four distinct regions: the Amazon rainforest in the east teeming with wildlife, the majestic Andes mountains in the center with snow-capped peaks, the Pacific coastline with beautiful beaches, and the famous Galápagos Islands 600 miles offshore. The Galápagos are like nature's laboratory - Charles Darwin studied the unique animals here and developed his theory of evolution!
Quito, the capital, sits high in the Andes at 9,350 feet elevation, making it the second-highest capital city in the world. Its colonial old town is a UNESCO World Heritage site with stunning churches and plazas. In the Amazon, indigenous communities maintain ancient traditions while protecting the rainforest. Ecuadorian cuisine includes delicious ceviche (marinated seafood), locro soup, and fresh tropical fruits. From giant Galápagos tortoises to tiny hummingbirds, from indigenous crafts to modern cities, Ecuador teaches us that great things come in small packages!
