Brazil is the fifth largest country in the world and the largest in South America, covering nearly half the continent. It is home to the Amazon Rainforest — the largest tropical rainforest on Earth — which is home to around 10% of all species on the planet. The Amazon River, which flows through the north of the country, carries more water than any other river in the world.
Brazil is one of the world's most important agricultural nations. It is the largest producer and exporter of coffee on the planet, and also leads globally in soybean exports. Brazil produces huge quantities of beef, orange juice, and sugar cane — which is also used to make ethanol fuel. Iron ore is a major mineral export, making Brazil one of South America's most powerful economies.
With a population of over 215 million people, Brazil is the most populous country in South America and the seventh most populous in the world. Its rich mix of Indigenous, African, and European cultures has produced some of the world's most vibrant music, dance, art, and sport — including the beautiful game.

🏟️ The History of Football in Brazil
Football arrived in Brazil in 1894, when Charles Miller — a Brazilian-born son of a Scottish engineer — returned from school in England carrying two footballs and a rule book. Within years, the game had spread from the São Paulo railway yards across the entire country. Miller organised the first official match in São Paulo in 1895, and what began as a sport of the elite rapidly became the passion of every street, every favela, and every community in the nation.
Brazil joined FIFA in 1923 and hosted the first South American World Cup in 1950 — a tournament that ended in heartbreak when Uruguay defeated the hosts 2–1 in the final at the Maracanã. Known as "O Maracanazo", it remains one of the greatest upsets in sporting history.
Recovery came in 1958, when a 17-year-old named Pelé helped Brazil win their first World Cup in Sweden. They retained the title in 1962, and won again in Mexico in 1970 with what many consider the greatest team ever assembled — a side of incredible talent, creativity, and flair.
After a 24-year gap, Brazil won again in 1994 (USA) and completed back-to-back victories with their fifth title in 2002 (Japan/South Korea), led by a fully fit Ronaldo who scored twice in the final against Germany.
Since then, Brazil has remained a powerhouse — always qualifying, always among the favourites — but the sixth title has proved elusive. The 2014 World Cup on home soil ended in a devastating 7–1 semi-final defeat to Germany, a game Brazilians simply call "O Mineirazo". The search for glory continues in 2026.
